Frequently Asked Questions

What does the first session look like?

During an intake session, I like to give an introduction with the following:

  1. Everything said during therapy sessions will remain confidential, with a few exceptions (i.e., if a client has a plan to take their own life or another’s life, child or elder abuse, valid subpoena)

  2. Ask if a client has any questions for me about the intake paperwork

  3. I will ask if a client would like to: 1) start talking freely about what brings them to therapy or 2) if the client would like me to ask a question to get us started, whatever helps them feel more comfortable

By the end of the first session, I like to establish short-term and long-term goals a client might have for treatment.

How long will therapy last?

Therapy lasts as long as a client wishes it to last. I have worked with clients for several months to several years, depending on what their treatment goals were (e.g., symptom relief vs. improving a sense of well-being). Typically, the longer someone stays in treatment, the more long-term benefits they will experience (e.g., improved relationships and way of relating to others; increased happiness, confidence, and self-awareness).

Do you prescribe psychiatric medications?

No, I do not. Psychologists licensed in PA do not have prescriptive authority at this time. If you are interested in pursuing psychiatric medications to help alleviate your symptoms, I will help refer you to a psychiatrist.

Can I have my appointments in the evening or the weekend?

I offer early evening appointments (when available) but not on weekends.

What is your cancellation/no-show policy?

If you do not cancel your appointment at least 24-hours prior to the time of your session or you do not come to your appointment at all, you will be charged a fee of $175 (unless we both agree that you were unable to attend due to circumstances outside of your control). Insurance benefits will not cover this cost.

What is parking like around your office?

There is a free parking lot behind the building. If that is full, there is metered parking (quarters required) in front of the building.

What if I decide that we’re not the right fit during treatment?

It is important to me that a client feels that they are with a therapist who feels like the right fit for them. If you would like to stop working together for any reason, I would be happy to provide you with referrals for other therapists.

“Beneath the surface of the protective parts of trauma survivors, there exists an undamaged essence, a Self that is confident, curious, and calm, a Self that has been sheltered from destruction by the various protectors that have emerged in their efforts to ensure survival.”
